2016 - 2017
In 2016, Anglicare assembled a team of design consultants to provide concept designs and a Development Application for their proposed flagship retirement village in Gordon NSW. The brief was to refurbish the existing heritage Burnham Thorpe building into boutique independent living units along with the construction of a new aged care facility to replace the existing out dated facilities. One of the most important project considerations in the planning of the project was understanding the complexity of this sloping site, the heritage elements and the sequencing of a project of this scale. The project team was required to manage the heritage requirement of the project and maintain the flora and fauna (grey flying fox) as part of Council's DA requirements. The DA for this proposed new facility involved designs of a new 3-storey, 107 bed residential aged care facility, the refurbishment and re-purposing of 8 Edward Street into staff facilities and 40 Independent living units. In addition to this, there will be refurbishment works to the existing Burnham Thorpe building into retirement living apartments and community spaces. External works consisted of new landscaping, rehabilitation of surrounding vegetation and renovation works to the existing pool.
