The project brief required the PDG design team to revitalise the refurbished food court area with an extensive green screen that cover a 30m blank concrete facade along the southern edge of the food court. The food court is an internal foyer space that is covered by an dramatic steel and glass canopy which allows solar penetration and natural lighting. Located to the west of the building the food court is overshadowed by several buildings thus creating a challenging environment for successful and sustained plant growth. The challenge for the team was to find the most appropriate vegetation that would create instant impact to a height of 4m without the benefit of direct sunlight that would sustain the level of green screening required by the client group. To maintain the strong architectural form of the Seidler building, the sculptural form of bamboo was recommended and successfully planted along the southern facade creating a dramatic back drop of green textured foliage for customers to enjoy.
